Go on … Believe in Yourself

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.”

Ever felt as though you were losing your nerve? One minute you’re completely fixed on your desired outcome and bang … You lose it. Your nerves are going … you feel shaky and as it gets worse you start to feel a little sick. What are you doing? You used to be so good at this!

Perhaps you play competitive sport. You know that feeling … the pressure’s on … you’re getting ready to take that shot … you know you’re good at this … aren’t you? … you were but what now? What if you miss? What then?

Or maybe you’re a trader and you know that you are only as good as your next trade … and the next trade is always harder than the last … Because all that uncertainty about how the market and how you will react is yet to come. Trading is just as much about managing yourself as the market. And how do you manage that anxiety?

Performance anxiety affects us all at one time or another. One minute you’re on top of the world, the next it feels like a slippery slope back down to where you started. Success is all about focus of attention and maintaining that requires energy … Which it turns out we don’t always have the endless supply of that we thought.

You see, sometimes we are in total flow. Everything goes exactly as we want it to … Exactly as we expect it to, because, well, why wouldn’t it? When we truly believe in ourselves, everything seems easy, like breathing or walking. We don’t have to think about doing these things, they just happen … Well, until panic sets in and then even breathing can seem like the hardest thing in the world. Our legs go wobbly and we have to think hard about completing even the simplest of tasks, such as walking straight and breathing slowly and deeply so that we don’t become even more light headed.

So what do we do about it? Well, when you’re in the flow and completing tasks with all of your focus, you are in a kind of trance, where your conscious and your subconscious mind are in harmony with each other. They both agree on where you are going and what you want to achieve and they both believe that you can do it. However, if any amount of doubt starts to creep in and takes hold, your subconscious may start to deviate from your conscious plan. If you believe that you can achieve then you will … But if your subconscious does not agree with you, then you won’t … Not without a great deal of effort and determination.

When our conscious and subconscious belief systems are out of alignment, we have a battle on our hands. One believing one thing, one another, is enough to bring about exhaustion in even the most determined of people … It’s just a matter of when. So the solution? Get your subconscious back on side! Which is where hypnotherapy can help. With the use of hypnosis to bypass the conscious mind, we can get right to the source of the problem and start changing those belief systems to match the ones we want. Our subconscious may be trying to protect us, but sometimes it just isn’t helping!

So what do you do next? Do you want to be making the right decisions, keep a head in potentially stressful situations, and gain greater success? I can help you to make the changes you need to change your sabotaging, subconscious belief systems into more positive, impactful belief systems. After all, how much longer do you think you can keep battling with your subconscious and win? Be The Sunshine On A Rainy Day!

The longest day has just passed and we are now in the height of ‘summer’ – although I use that term suncloudrainlightly. I know so many people who in their spare moments of the day chat with others about how rubbish the summer is. Sometimes it can seem like we are wishing our lives away just by hoping that the next day will be sunnier, brighter, warmer  better!

I’ve traveled to all sorts of different places around the world and the one thing that struck me, was that it really isn’t the weather that makes the difference to people’s lives or happiness. people are not always happier when the sun shines … or doesn’t! What makes a difference to the value of life is what we choose to focus on. We can choose to focus on all the days that it rains … or is cloudy … and wait for the days that are bright. Or, we can choose to value the rain for the watering of the garden and the juicy strawberries that will grow, enjoy the cloudy days so we can get things done that need to be done and then we can play tennis and eat strawberries when the sun does decide to come out an play!

And, if we can’t have the sun shine on us from above, then let the sun shine from within and brighten someone’s day with a smile … you never know, they may just smile back :-)

Cultivate Your Mind

“We’re like a gardener with a hose and our attention is water – we can water flowers or we can water weeds.”
Josh Radnor

I don’t know if you’re a gardener or not, but if you are you’ll probably have experienced the frustration where winter is over and you finally venture out into the garden after many months of neglect, only to discover the garden filled with weeds. And, as we all know, a weed is just a plant that we do not want! It can seem like an overwhelming job and some of us may decide to go in, have a cup of tea and forget all about it. You might be one of those people who likes to get stuck in and start tackling it all straight away, or you might make a plan to sort it all out another time … either way it’s there, lurking at the back of your mind as something that needs doing, however hard or easy it is to try and forget.

This is like the mind. Each thought or concept we have is like a plant in the garden of our mind. The more focus we give each determines how large they become, flourishing or withering depending on how we respond to them. Now, the question is – are you giving your  time and energy to your positive thoughts or those negative weeds that have crept in?

Sometimes, people have trouble identifying what are weeds and what are not. Ask yourself, is this thought benefiting my life? Is it helpful? If not, remove it! You are the one in control of your mental garden and you alone can choose what you want to be in there and how you want it to be. Once you have identified what is in there, what you want and what you don’t want, then you can begin to rid yourself of anything that does not help you in your life. The added bonus of removing those negative thoughts is that you then have more room to add in positive thoughts that will enhance your life and bring you a peaceful and tranquil mind space.

Don’t be overwhelmed. By removing one weed at a time, you will soon start to create a beautiful mindset.

A Fresh Start

So today, as with any other day, is a new start. With every choice that we make, or choose to stick with, daisies-388946_1280we embark upon a new venture. Every possibility is open to us based upon the choices that we make, so it’s important that we make good decisions that will benefit us as well as those around us. That is where mind management becomes so important.

So many of us live lives where every day  is much the same as any other. We wake up, go to work, cross the chores off our lists and make it through to the end, when we can finally sit down and relax before going to bed to wake up and start the whole process again. If we’re lucky, we find the time (and the resources) to fit a holiday or two into our year and perhaps buy ourselves a treat (because we’re worth it). For most of us, that’s enough. But what about for those where it isn’t enough. Maybe you’re not happy with your job, your relationships, your life! You may feel as though you’re not fulfilled but you can’t quite put your finger on why. Does this sound like you?

How many of us actually stop to think that there can be more? More to life, greater fulfilment, more happiness! Hypnotherapy is such an effective way to harness the power of our minds, to achieve our goals and start living the life of our dreams that I want to get the message out there! I know it has helped me personally to feel more confident and more empowered in my life. I have also seen great benefits for others from losing weight to overcoming phobias and all sorts of fears so that these people have finally been freed from their previous limiting beliefs and started to live the life that they have always dreamed of.

Mental Spring Clean

Mind is everything. What we think, we become.” – Buddha    zen-178992_1280

It’s that time of year. The sun is starting to shine, new life beginning to emerge and you may be feeling the urge to purge all those things in your life that you no longer need. Yes, it’s time to throw out those socks with holes in, the shoes that stopped being a pair a long time ago and clean out all those cupboards. It’s the yearly tradition of spring cleaning time and it can make us feel ready and optimistic for the fresh start that the good weather brings!

But how about this year trying something new … have you ever though of having a mental spring clean? It’s much like the traditional spring clean but instead of mismatched outfits and broken crockery, look within to see if anything needs discarding. Are there any old thought patterns you have been holding on to for so long that they are no longer helping you but actually holding you back? Do you have any negative beliefs that you have been living with for so long that you had almost forgotten that they were there (even though they still make you feel less than positive deep down)? Well, out with the old and in with the new! With the freshness that the spring air brings, breath a breath of fresh air into your mind and free yourself from anything that does not help you. This is one route to happiness and mental wellbeing.

Take stock, what are you thinking on a daily basis? Focus on one thought at a time and ask yourself honestly ‘Is this way of thinking helping me to reach my goals or holding me back?’ If you’re talking to yourself in a less than positive way, then change it! Imagine the old thought drifting away from you on a cloud … wish it farewell and feel it moving away (you might need to give it a bit of a shove!) Now, think of a new thought to replace it, a positive thought that is going to help you, and repeat it to yourself over and over until you really start to feel that positive energy … you might want to even write it down so that you can see it as a constant reminder. Just note how you feel … hopefully a lot better! Now you can do this for yourself everytime you notice a negative thought pattern creeping in. Focus on one thought at a time though for a lasting effect.
